AN ANTIDOTE TO ANXIETY

Philippians 4:6-7
Series: Take Back Your Mind
Anxiety strikes us in different ways. It may come in the form of a difficult test. Or maybe an interview with one’s dream company. Or it could be a health check-up to determine if one has serious health problems. When anxiety attacks, how can we defend our mind against it?

Discussion Guide
1) Start Changing Our Perspective (6a)
What are some usual things people get anxious about? How do people tend to magnify their problems? How can emphasising our problems affect our perspective of God? What should be the right perspective of God (read Phil 4:5b)? If we truly believe that God is present everywhere and all-powerful, how should we perceive and respond to our problems? What does it mean to us that God is near? How can we fix your eyes on God in the midst of problems? What are some changes in perspective we may need to have? What can the LG do to encourage each other to turn to God?

2) Start Entrusting Our Needs to God (6b)
What are some common needs that people have? Why do you think some may find it hard to entrust their needs to God? What does it mean to trust God for His provision? Does trusting God mean we become passive? Discuss. How does our trust in God translate to our actions or decisions? What is one area God is calling us to hand over your needs to Him? How can we strengthen your prayer life? What hinders our prayers to God? How can we deal with the obstacles to prayer? How can we grow in gratitude, since thanksgiving is the right approach to your Creator?

3) Start Trusting God for His Peace (7)
The outcome of us entrusting our needs to God is receiving His peace. The peace that God promises is not the absence of conflict but the well-being of our relationship with Him. Why do you think it is more important to have a healthy relationship with God than to have a problem-free life? Do we need to figure everything out about our problems before we can trust God for His peace? Why? What are some unsolvable issues you’re facing now? How do they make you feel? How can you take your concerns to God and experience His peace that will guard you from further anxiety? How can the LG support one another to seek God in all circumstances?
