COVID-19 UPDATES

Ease of COVID-19 Restrictions

This memo is updated on 1 April 2022.

Dear church

After 2 years of living with COVID-19, the Singapore government has now taken a “decisive step” towards endemic. This signify great news for the church community.

Being a life group church that we are, one of my greatest joy is that most of us will be able to gather in a bigger gathering to do life together. We often say that in a life group, we get to know and be known, love and be loved, celebrate and be celebrated over. And it has been a long while since we are able to gather in groups of 10.

Another is to be able to raise our voice in church to worship. Songs unite us to one another and singing has long been a huge part of offering praises to God.

Starting this weekend, I look forward to seeing us, the people of God, come together to bring God the praise offering that He so deserve. We thank God for His protection over Singapore, and we continually pray for our health care sector and front line workers as we step forward as a nation and a church.

From 2/3 April weekend onwards:

  • More seats in the house as the capacity limit of venues is increased from 50% to 75%.
  • Social gatherings with mask-off activities can now have up to 10 people. Bookings of church venues for LG gatherings will be made available through the e2hope booking portal, or email request to [email protected].
  • Mask-wearing will continue to be required for worship services and pastoral meetings in church venues.
  • Congregational singing with masks on will be allowed. Singing during LG gatherings in church premises is still not allowed

Sincerely,

Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

A new phase of endemic

This memo is updated on 17 March 2022.

Dear Church,

As a nation, we are currently at downward trend of the current variant of COVID-19. Safe management measures have been further simplified in Singapore, and the greatest benefit to us as a church is that now there are going to be more seats in the house.

From March 15, zone seating requirements will be removed for congregational worship services and other mask-on religious activities.

With that, starting this this weekend (19/20 March), all Hope Singapore services:
1. Will no longer be segregated in zones. This means more seats for all!
2. Will continue to implement vaccination-differentiated safe management measures (VDS)
3. Will require all attendees to keep masks on at all time

For kids services, capacity will be increased according to venue limits. All kids will still need tickets to attend the kids services.

What doesn’t change is our commitment to the cleanliness and hygiene of our venues. All common surfaces are wiped down and disinfected after every service. I also would like to  encourage all of us to exercise personal social responsibility and attend the service when we have no symptoms or have fully recovered from Covid.

I would like to encourage all who are able to come in person to come gather physically with your spiritual family in a responsible manner. In this COVID-19, we’ve seen the power of our online world. But we’ve also felt its limitations. We are human beings, designed to experience our way through the physical world God has made. No loving couple would gladly accept a “long-distance relationship” as ideal. Neither should a loving church family.

In the Bible God says, “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” When you come in-person, God can use you to encourage or pray for others. In the same way, God can use others to add strength, affirm, or bring a word of wisdom to your situation. We are designed to be part of God’s community.

Our decisions reflect what we value. Our every step writes the story of our life. It is my hope that we all have a story of faith and perseverance to tell at the end of the pandemic. Let’s do this together.

Sincerely,

Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

Tightened Community Measures

This memo is updated on 26 September 2021.

Dear Church,

As Singapore moves towards endemic, the Ministry of Health just announced a new set of tightened safe management measures to minimise the strain on our healthcare capacity. This include reducing social gathering to 2 persons and moving classes for primary school children online.

The guidelines given to worship services remain similar. The significant changes are reduced group size from 5 to 2 and no kids in-person services. Elderlies are also encouraged not to attend religious activities.

From 2 to 24 October, the changes will be as follow:

1. Reduced group size from 5 to 2 in all in-person services.
2. Kids in-person services suspended. Zoom gatherings will continue.
3. Dialect service suspended.
4. Filipino to have only 1 in-person fully vaccinated service on Sunday 3pm. 6pm service to move fully online.
5. Life Groups to move online.

As we learn to live with this endemic, I encourage you to continue to look at 2 spiritual principles – the principle of faith and the principle of love.

The principle of faith speaks about trusting God in all circumstances and living by faith, not motivated by fear and self-preservation. Practically, we live this out by observing safe measures, wearing good fitting masks, and having the peace of God to face the ever-changing times. On this note, I will encourage all individuals to come together corporately as much as we can – we gather as long as it is called today.

The principle of love propels us to be responsible believers to those who are more vulnerable in society. I understand some may have reservations to come to in-person service as you are serving in high-risk environment or you are staying with someone who is vulnerable. Worshipping from home is so that we can practice the principle of love. God is love, and we love for He first loved us. I encourage you to guard your walk with God and fight to stay connected to Jesus and your life group.

Let’s think how living with endemic looks like. We need to shine even more in such uncertain times. May God deepen our spiritual values, and use our lives to impact others. I pray that each of you will emerge spiritually stronger.

Do also pray for Singapore’s COVID-19 Taskforce, Ministry of Health, all our front-liners, and elderlies who are working in the F&B industry. Pray for God’s protection and healing upon all who have contracted COVID-19, and pray for our nation’s transition to endemic.

Sincerely,

Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

Confirmed Case at Dialect Service

This memo is updated on 29 August 2021.

Dear Church,

We were alerted this morning (29 August) that one of the attendees at our Dialect service has been tested positive for COVID-19.

After investigating, we confirmed that Uncle has come to the Connect Halls at Textile Centre Level 8 on 28 Aug from 1015am to 11am to attend Dialect Service. During the time he was here, he adhered to the safety measures such as wearing a mask at all times, not singing, keeping 1-metre distance from others, and not mingling with others outside the 5 he was sitting with. Uncle sought medical attention after service and was then tested positive. He is fully vaccinated and his condition is stable. We are in contact with his family and will be supporting them through this period.

Contact tracing is now underway, and the Ministry of Health (MOH) has been and will be in touch with those who are identified as his close contacts.

As a strictly upheld practice, our church premises are rigorously cleaned and disinfected after every meeting and service. We also use anti-microbial protection on all high-touch surfaces. With regards to this case of infection, the church has been in touch with MOH regarding the necessary protocols.

All our rooms on Level 8 are closed today and tomorrow (29 & 30 August) for professional disinfection and cleaning. As of now, in-person services will still proceed as planned next week. If you have any questions or concerns, email us at [email protected].

Let us continue to keep Uncle, his family, and close contacts in prayer over this period.

Sincerely,

Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

Resumption of In-person Services

This memo is updated on 13 August 2021.

Dear Church,

Many of us are aware of the easing of measures announced on 6 August. Amongst these are being able to dine-in, gather in groups of 5, and having an increased capacity limit for large events like worship services.

As we have a good vaccination rate in our church, many of us are able to gather in-person for worship services. Starting 21/22 August, we will be opening up for more services to gather in-person. Mandarin will be starting the first fully vaccinated service, and students will start 50 pax worship services on 21 August. East Adult group will start on 29 August.

As the nation moves towards having more people vaccinated, we are doing our best in preparing a safe environment for as many as we can to eventually worship in-person. In September, we will work towards having fully vaccinated services for all congregations, as well as exploring solutions to have non-vaccinated services in smaller capacities.

Some of you may be meeting on Zoom or in-person in 5s for Life Groups and service. Before meeting in homes, we encourage Life Group Leaders to have dialogues with members to assess their comfort level in carrying out any social gathering in households. Facilities booking for 5 person gathering will also resume in September.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for pivoting on God in the last few months. It can be unsettling and sometimes discouraging to navigate through ever-changing norms, yet many of you persevere in staying connected to God and each other and being a blessing to others in our lack. Let us continue to press on and fix our eyes on Jesus – our joy and our hope. I look forward to worshipping and encountering God’s Presence together with you in our venues soon!

Sincerely,

Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

Return to Phase 2 Heightened Alert

This memo is updated on 21 July 2021.

Dear Church,

When news of the KTV cluster broke out, I was angry. When the school murder case happened, I was shocked. When I heard of our daughter churches and leaders battling Covid-19 and political unrest, I felt helpless.

But when I recollected myself and prayed, God reminded me strongly of this fact: God is still in control. And He is greater than all these situations. This reminder gave me the strength to persevere in building God’s church. My concerns also shifted to those who are affected, such as the people in the F&B industries, the seniors, and the students.

The East Centre was scheduled to launch and gather in person this weekend, but will now be gathering fully online. All our services and Life Groups will be moved online from 22 July to 20 August with the exception of Mandarin at North East Centre.

Mandarin at North East is meeting in 50 pax capacity without live worship. New Tech Park also has ample space for the proper implementation of safety measures. The pastoral team has already encouraged all non-vaccinated seniors to tune in online in this period. For the rest of us, let’s continue to commit to meet virtually and be intentional to foster connections through digital means!

All that has happened reinforces the hope we have in Christ, and the importance that God’s light shines through us in this darkness. As Christ-followers, if we only rejoice when everyone is rejoicing and when everything is going well, then we are not very distinct from the world. But if we are able to rejoice and trust God amidst challenges, that would set us apart from the world.

I want to encourage all who are affected by the current national situation in any way to speak to someone about it, and not stay silent. I also encourage us to take time to pray, to listen, and to look out for opportunities to meet the needs of those who are affected.

We are God’s light and we are made for darkness. Remember, our power source to shine is not from us, it comes from God. Let’s stay plugged in to the Holy Spirit, and may God shine His light through us.

Sincerely,

Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

Textile Centre KTV Lounge Cluster

This memo is updated on 14 July 2021.

Dear Church,

It has come to our attention that one of the KTV lounges investigated for Covid-19 infection is located within the same building as our worship venue at Axis. Club de Zara is situated on the 8th floor while our services and gathering venues are on the 4th and 8th floor.

As a strictly-upheld practice since the resumption of on-site church services and gatherings, all our church premises are frequently cleaned and disinfected. We also use anti-microbial protection on all high-touch surfaces. With regards to this recent incident, we have been in touch with MOH regarding the necessary protocols. We were not given any advisories by MOH, but we have deployed UV lamps to disinfect the common corridor and lift lobby areas.

That said, in light of the spike in cases related to the KTV lounges, we are moving forward with caution and looking at reducing the number of people gathering inside Textile Centre. As such:

  • All in-person services and events at Textile Centre Level 8 will be moved online or to alternative venues from July 13 to July 27
  • Worship services at Axis will be moved online for the weekend of July 17 & 18

Though the risk of transmission is low, visitors to any Hope venues in Textile Centre from 29 June to 13 July are encouraged to monitor their health and visit a doctor should there be a need to.

We want to assure you that your safety is our priority, and we are keeping a close watch on the situation. We will continue to bring you updates as the situation develops. Let us continue to keep Singapore and the affected families in prayer.

Sincerely,
Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

COVID-19 Phase 3 Heightened Alert

This memo is updated on 18 June 2021.

Dear Church,

The word in the Greek translation of the Old Testament for “assembly,” ekklesia, is the same word the New Testament writers use to refer to the local church. Assembling isn’t merely a nice thing to do; it’s part of what a church is.

This season we have experienced various formats of gathering – through digital tools, in-person in 2, 5, 8s, in service with masks and no singing… and this may very well change soon again. But the principle remains the same – we need to treasure coming together, for this is God’s design.

In the coming weeks, services will continue to be streamed online. Some of the students and the Mandarin congregation will start meeting on-site within the 50 pax capacity starting from 26 & 27 June. Some of you may be meeting on zoom or in-person in 5s for life groups and service.

As the nation moves towards having more people vaccinated and eventually faster test kits, we are reviewing the situation and preparing a safe environment for more people to be able to gather on-site. I look forward to seeing some of you soon!

Sincerely,
Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

COVID-19 Phase 2 Heightened Alert

This memo is updated on 14 May 2021.

Dear Church,

There are now more than 161 million people worldwide who are infected with COVID-19, out of which 3.3 million have lost their lives. The escalation of cases in Singapore reminds us we are still in the midst of dark and challenging times in human history.

But we have God with us and we are called to bring His light wherever we go. The darker the night, the brighter the light.

The government has today announced new heightened measures in the coming month in a bid to bring the infection in Singapore under control. Out of love for our attendees and our nation, Hope Singapore will be moving all our gatherings online from 15 May till 13 June 2021. These includes life groups, services, and all other religious gatherings and classes.

We understand that the government guidelines allows for 2 visitors or 2 people to gather physically, but as a church, we would encourage all gatherings to be conducted online. This is so that we can do our part to help reduce cases of local transmission at this critical moment.

Hope Conference is slated to happen on the 29 & 30 of May and I know many were looking forward to gather in their life groups for a great time of fellowship and learning. The pastors and team heads will be meeting to discuss plans regarding Hope Conference and more details will be released next week.

Changes will keep coming, and pivoting is truly our new norm. But we must remember that through all these disruptions, our growth is not just that we become better at adapting. It is also that we learn to depend more and more on our unchanging God.

Let’s continue to meet online, be intentional to connect, and be disciplined to pursue God. We thank you leaders for leading the life groups, and also ask for everyone in the church to support your leader. Hope is truly better together, and with God, let us be the church and continue to traffick hope!

Sincerely,
Senior Pastor Jeff Chong

COVID-19 Phase 3 Heightened Measure

This memo is updated on 6 May 2021.

Dear Church,

As you have probably heard from the news, the Government has tightened measures considering the rising number of community cases. Worship services will be capped at 100 people (or 250 with pre-event testing) from May 8 to 30 and congregational live singing is not permitted.

When I hear this, I am reminded of what we just went through in the series “Ready for Change”. We are not just pivoting for the sake of adapting to changes, the main thing is to develop greater dependance on God.

Guidelines and circumstances are ever-changing, but our lives are anchored in the hope of Jesus. With the gospel being the focus point, we can live with courage and be the light in any season of our lives.

Let’s not react in fear, but pivot upon Christ. For us in Hope Singapore, the format of meeting will be temporarily changed in this month of May.

  • Weekend services will be capped at 100 people capacity. All will need to pre-register for service. For services that already has more than 100 registered attendees, new links will be released for rebooking of tickets.
  • Kids services will continue with reduced capacity. The children will be split into groups of 5 instead of the current 8.
  • In-person life group gatherings should be within the guidelines of 5 guests a household, or up to 5 people outside of homes.
  • No congregational live singing in service or life group gathering

I urge us all to continue to be responsible citizens and to observe the Safe Management Measures. When you come for service, do these things:

  1. Check-in and Check-out via TraceTogether
  2. Stay home if you have flu-like symptoms, or have been in contact with any confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case
  3. Wear face masks at all times
  4. Keep 1-meter safe distance between person or seats
  5. No mingling across groups before, during or after each meeting and leave venue immediately after meeting.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, let’s continue to be a blessing to our own parents or parents we know at our workplace and neighbourhood. May they experience Jesus’s love and power, more so during this uncertain season.

Let us continue to stand in the gap to pray for all who are affected by the virus, here in Singapore and all over the world, for our God hears. Draw strength from Him, for He is with us to the very end of the age!

Sincerely,
Senior Pastor Jeff Chong
6 May 2021

Yes admission to services will be strictly by tickets.

To prioritise weekend services and to reduce the number of people on our premises, rooms in Axis and New Tech Park will not be available for booking. If you are having trouble finding an alternative venue, please consult your congregation head.

According to the MCCY guidelines, all other religious activities are strongly encouraged to be moved online or deferred. As a leadership team, we encourage all leaders to evaluate the meeting methods, and to prioritise meeting online. In the case that an in-person meeting is more strategic, please do adhere to the safe management measures.

If you

– live in the same household as Tan Tock Seng Hospital staff who has been given quarantine or stay home orders

– have visited hospital wards of Tan Tock Seng in the last 14 days

we would advise that you join the service online until the 14 days or quarantine/stay home period is passed.

Facebook: fb.com/hopemandarin.sg

New Normal, Same God!

This memo is updated on 27 December 2020.

Dear Church

Phase 3 is here, and indeed we are now entering a new norm as a nation.

It has been more than 1 month since we resumed our in-person worship services. I have spent the last few weeks with different centres and congregations, yet what I received is the same – hope is indeed better together!

No matter what we identify as in this world – sons & daughters, employees, spouses, leaders, or even parents, we are first spiritual people. Perhaps going to church has almost been a routine in the past, but now going to church is a more deliberate choice. The people around us, our families and loved ones – they look to our decision and take cue from us on when we choose to go to church. Our actions communicate what we value. Staying close to God and plugged in to community shows the value we place on our personal spiritual walk. When we make the intentional effort to cherish every opportunity to gather in person, we are also proclaiming that we are part of a greater body.

I am thankful that with Phase 3 and the increased capacity allowed by government guidelines, we are now able to plan for more to return to in-person worship services. Nothing beats being in the house of God together!

Starting 16 and 17 January 2021, we will be entering a new normal for Hope. Here are the new service timings and venues.

Axis Centre
Ablaze – Saturday 2pm at Axis Auditorium

Tertiary – Saturday 5pm at Axis Auditorium

Adults – Sunday 930am* and 1115am* at Axis Auditorium

Kids – Sunday 930am* at Connect Halls (4 – 12 years old)

Filipino – Sunday 3pm* and 6pm* at Axis Auditorium

Filipino Kids – To resume in April 2021

North East Centre

Mandarin – Saturday 430pm at Spectrum Hall
Billingual HopeKids – Saturday 430pm

Adults – Sunday 930am* and 1115am* at Spectrum Hall

Kids – Sunday 930am* at Ignite Room and Kindle Room (4 – 12 years old)

Filipino Ignite – Sunday 3pm (alternate weeks)

West Centre

Adults – Sunday 930am* at Chevrons Main Hall

Kids – Sunday 930am* at Carnation Room (4 – 12 years old)

We have planned for an additional timing for adults service in Axis and North East Centre as well as for the progressive return of in-person kids services. Parents, I know that in 2020, many of you worked from home, while juggling HBL for your children and leading them through the kids services and zoom lifegroups. I want you to know that none of that is wasted, the routine you have built helps the children to see what a family does together to worship God! What matters most for a child is not the well-being or grades, but the recognition of the need for the gospel.

The task force has put in measures to ensure the safety of our attendees and especially our children. More details on the detailed measures as well as the registration and check-in process can be found in the FAQ below.

We know that as we return, it will not be as it used to be, or as ideal as we wish it to be. But in this unique and challenging season, let’s continue to do everything we can to live and lead well. Let’s embrace the new norm, and hold onto the same God.

I look forward to seeing more of you soon!

Senior Pastor Jeffrey Chong

Sincerely,

Senior Pastor Jeff Chong
27 December 2020

Our facilities are coated with durable NanoEl anti-microbrial disinfection coating that eliminates harmful viruses and bacteria when it comes into contact. All items and contact surfaces will also be wiped with disinfecting solutions before and after services.

All adults and children will be checked for flu-like symptoms before entry. You will also be required to wear a mask at all times on site.

Every zone will be capped at 50 persons including adults and children.

For kids services, every group will consist of 7 kids and 1 huddle leader and will be distanced 1 m apart. Sharing of toys and stationery will be limited to their small group. In the 75 minute programme, we will be having activities that follow government guidelines as well as video teaching.

The tickets are made available on Sunday after service. All Adults and children will need tickets. Please register for the tickets according to the age range of your children. There are 2 ticket types for children: Hopekids (4-6 yr old) and Hopekids (7-12 yr old). For children 0 to 37 months, please register for an Adult Ticket.

The toddlers service will be resuming at a later date. For now, parents can bring them to the Kids Ark and Parents Lounge, or bring them into the main hall.

All the detailed instructions will be in the email sent to you after you register for your ticket. Please read the registration confirmation carefully on where and what time to check-in.

As the Singapore government advises, singing or speaking loudly are considered activities with higher risks of COVID-19 transmission. As such, we advise against having these activities at this point when we gather in person.

930am, Ignite & Kindle Room (412)

930am, Carnation Room (412)

Phase 2 is now here

This memo is updated on 17 June 2020.

Dear Church,

Phase 2 is almost here. Some of you have been awaiting this for a long time for various reasons. Your business may now be opened, or you may now finally be able to meet up with your family and friends. I thank each and every one of you for adhering to the government’s guidelines over all this challenging time. I pray that as we move into this new phase, we will continue to be socially responsible and continue to keep our focus on God’s vision and mission for our church.

The church has never closed

Though we discuss the reopening of the nation, know that the church has never been closed. In these 3 months, we have seen people come to receive Jesus as their Saviour, we have people being baptised in the Spirit over Zoom, we have worshipped in our own homes. We have grieved and rejoiced with our spiritual families in their times of sorrow and joy. No matter which phase we are in, we believe each will offer unique opportunities to show and share the love of Jesus.

Phase 2 – Let us be motivated on how we can share the gospel of Christ better!

Phase 2 means that we are now able to meet face to face in certain environments. And in this (and every) period, our vision and mission remain the same: Love Neighbours, Make Disciples, Plant Churches. In this unique time, more people are open to the gospel. We should go forth and spread the love of Christ more creatively instead of shrinking back. Whether we choose to meet physically or online, let our motivation be how can we serve and reach people as Christ would.

I know many of us long to meet. Let us gently remind each other to practise good personal hygiene and to be socially responsible. Let’s also love one another by being understanding and sensitive to others. If there are members in your group who choose to not meet in person, look for ways to include them when you do gather, such as through video conferencing. If you plan on visiting someone’s home, be considerate of your host’s home and family members.

A new normal – God is still and will always be with us!

As society cautiously enters a new normal, let us take heart and remember that God is with us. Though we navigate through uncertainties, we can boldly hold onto God, ‘our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.’ (Psalms 46:1) Let us place our faith in Jesus, who has promised us that He will surely be with us, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20)!

Sincerely,
Senior Pastor Jeff Chong
17 June 2020

Not at this moment. One important aspect of our service is expressing our gratitude to God through worship. Singing is currently not allowed as it is considered an activity with high risk of transmission. With that consideration, we will still be meeting online for service.

Much as we would love to meet face to face, strict measures have to be in place to ensure the safety of these gatherings and to keep the risk of the community spread low.

To ensure the safety of our people and make our gatherings conducive, all meetings and classes will be held online till further notice.

This means that small groups of 5 people and below can meet physically for fellowship, life group or mentoring if they adhere to safe distancing and personal hygiene practices such as wearing a mask, staying home if they are not well, and washing hands.

The government advises all to be:

• Be socially responsible
• Practise good personal hygiene
• Ensure safe distancing and adhere to safe management principles
• Use SafeEntry when required, and check in and out using the TraceTogether app
• Keep number of contacts small and limited to your regular circle of close contacts, to protect yourself and your families
• Seniors, who are especially vulnerable, should continue to exercise extra caution and stay at home as much as possible

Let us be good testimonies for Christ and love people by considering the vulnerable among us.

As the Singapore government advises, singing or speaking loudly are considered activities with higher risks of COVID-19 transmission. As such, we advise against having these activities at this point when we gather in person.

Yes, you can consider going in small groups of 5 or less. As you meet up physically with your neighbours and school mates, do be sensitive to others’ comfort level as you interact.

The principle to this is to keep number of contacts small and limited to protect yourself and your families as the nation slowly reopens. For now, we would advise that you try to stick to a same small group when meeting physically.

In accordance to the government regulations, gatherings involving more than 5 people are not allowed, even if they are split across multiple tables. We advise for all to keep gathering size small.

In Phase Two, we will allow bookings of up to 5 persons per room/space at THE AXIS @ Textile Centre and HOPE @ New Tech Park.

Safe Management Measures are put in-place and are to be observed at all times for the safety of everyone during gathering.

It is mandatory for all to:

  1. Check-in and Check-out via Safe Entry,
  2. Submit Temperature, Health & Travel Declarations, and
  3. Wear face masks at all times.
  4. Keep 1-meter safe distance between person or seats
  5. No mingling across groups before, during or after each meeting. Leave venue immediately after meeting.
  6. No singing and live performances during meeting.

Update: 28 May

Dear Church,

It is now almost eight weeks since the start of the Circuit Breaker, I pray that you are keeping well in the Lord.

This weekend would have been our annual Hope Conference. It is usually when I get to spend extended time with all of you and to meet our global leaders in the Hope Global family. It is a time I cherish a lot and I truly miss seeing everyone and worshipping together.

As the nation eases towards safe re-opening in the next weeks, there are still measures in place that aim to minimise the risk of new surges of cases. In March, the leadership team had discussed and decided to move all in-person gatherings online until 30 June 2020. This includes Service, Life Groups, classes, mentoring and all other meetings. As we observe the situation, we will likely need to continue online gathering and we do this out of a heart to love – to be socially responsible and do our part as a citizen of the nation.

I want to thank and affirm all of you who are innovating, trying new ways to reach out and disciple, and most importantly, for trusting God in this season. I have heard many stories both locally and globally of how people in our church continue to love neighbours, make disciples and plant churches. The staff team and I have also been learning from leaders both local and global on how we can better reach and disciple people through new platforms. The focus has not changed. The mission is not to gather our church on the world wide web. The mission is to take the church to the whole wide world!

As we move forward, we see great potential in the online platform to reach people beyond our geographical boundaries. In light of that, we are starting 2 online Services on Sunday 830pm and 10pm. This service is specially catered to an international audience, and you can invite your overseas friends or contacts to join in. We also have an online Facebook group that they can get connected to.

The Equip team has also been working on an online Grow Portal since late last year, and we are now ready for you to make full use of the library of resources and the various seasons of classes through this one-stop shop. More details will be given to you this weekend. I encourage you to take the time to look through the resources and classes!

The COVID-19 Hope Fund was also launched a few weeks ago. We have seen many of you come forward to give generously and we have also processed a number of applications. I am proud of our spiritual family and how we come together to care and love tangibly those who are in our midst, and I urge you to be involved by giving generously and applying if you are in need.

This weekend, I will be sharing with you some takeaways from my time away on Sabbath, and I know you will be blessed by the word of God. See you online this weekend

Update: 27 March

Dear Church,

We have been hugely blessed to hear so many positive testimonies when our church went fully online for Services and Life Groups for last weekend.  There were stories of people joining us to fellowship online and even people receiving Jesus into their lives for the very first time! This speaks volumes of the truth that church cannot be closed because it is not a building. We are the church and even in such times, we do not stop being the church!

The COVID-19 pandemic has been an intensely challenging period for the world. As a pastors’ team, we are praying that God will be the strength of your heart as you go through this season (Psalms 73:26). We are also praying for the hope we have in Christ be displayed through all believers. We invite you to join us in daily prayers for the next two weeks.

In this difficult times, we take heart in Scripture in Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” As we recognise our helplessness, let’s take heart in the sovereignty of God and consider what good God can work in us and through us in this season. For a start, we can be intentional to reach out to others through text or social media, to ask how they are doing and to offer up prayers. Let’s shine brightly for Him during these dark times.

The number of cases locally has been rising. Government has advised Singaporeans on tighter safe distancing measures, which work best when more people do it together. With the desire to love our neighbours and indeed be better together, Hope Singapore will be moving all our gatherings online till the end of June 2020. We strongly encourage all seniors to stay home, and stay connected through phone or text. Our Hope Conference will also be postponed to 2021, and refunds will be given to those who have already registered. This is so that we can all play our social responsibility to help reduce cases of local transmission in Singapore.

As we take this extended step, we will certainly miss the opportunity to gather physically. At the same time, we thank God for technology that allows us to have our gatherings online. This is an opportunity to consider alternative forms of expressing our faith to the watching world, to preach the good news through new mediums to new people groups. As we look forward to meet in person again, let us also not miss what God is wanting us to learn in this season.

Throughout church history, the body of Christ has not only survived but thrived and flourished through troubled times. In the same way, let us be a generation of believers who will take the Christian faith deeper into our hearts and further into the community. Christ is leading us, and the church would not cease because we are the church. Let us BE the church and spread the message of hope!

Sincerely,
Pastors’ Team

A Message from our Senior Pastor

Pastor Jeff recorded a message for us during his sabbathical leave and reminds us “The darker the night, the brighter the light.” Let us look to Jesus!

Services will be streamed live through church online at all usual service timings. This means that at your usual service timings, instead of making your way to a physical location, you make your way online!

Your leaders may be asking you to join the service together. After the service, your life group will continue to meet and pray for each other online through the various online tools available for discussion.

We have also prepared a 30minute service video for your child. Feel free to download it and go through it with them!

Be intentional to connect. Hope is better together, even online!

In what we have shared above, we believe it is wise and loving to limit in person gatherings during this time.

Should you be meeting up individually or in smaller groups, we recommend you practice safe distancing guidelines as proposed by the government. This is how we can do our part to be loving to others!

All Equip classes and other LG team meetings this weekend will be moved online. Other events in the weeks to come may be postponed or moved online.

One of the ways we can show God’s love is by participating in government endorsed measures, including safe distancing. That’s why we’re not gathering together in person – because this is one of the best ways we can love others right now. Yet this does not mean isolation! We recommend that you go out of your way to cultivate personal contact with your neighbours and whomever God has placed in your way. Make phone calls, text, notice and meet a need while being aware of the safe distancing measures.
